Ethiopian National Housing Symposium
Building Homes, Empowering Lives: Advancing Inclusive Housing for Sustainable Development.
The National Housing Symposium convened in Addis Ababa for two days brought together key stakeholders and practitioners in the housing sector to present research findings on various housing issues, discuss barriers in accessing adequate shelter and outline future partnerships for sustainable solutions.
Participants of the symposium emphasized the need for strong collaboration between government institutions, non-governmental organizations, financial sector, private firms and research institutions to address housing challenges through inclusive policy, good governance, access to housing finance and improved land tenure.
At the closing session of the symposium, Habitat for Humanity National Director and Representative to Africa Union Yitna Tekalegne reiterated that policy briefs will be delivered from the final report of the symposium. Yitna further mentioned that the symposium’s taskforce will be consolidated through engaging other stakeholders and will serve as the national forum for policy advocacy initiatives related to housing.
Yitna said that Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia is preparing to develop a five-year strategic plan to engage partners in a comprehensive way, expand its work and reach more families in impactful way.
