Position: Project Officer

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Officer will serve as the focal person for Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia (HFHE) in Dire Dawa and will be responsible for the day-to-day management and implementation of the Dire Dawa Housing, Hygiene, Sanitation, and Energy Project. This includes supporting project activities related to housing, hygiene, sanitation, and energy interventions. The role will require close collaboration with the Project Coordinator, local authorities, community stakeholders, and contractors to ensure the successful delivery of the project’s goals and objectives, while maintaining the high standards of Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Project Coordinator in developing detailed work plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Support the coordination of housing construction, sanitation facilities, hygiene promotion, and energy stove installations.
  • Ensure that the project activities are in line with Habitat for Humanity Ethiopia’s objectives and local standards.
  • Regularly monitor project activities to ensure that they meet timelines, quality standards, and budget requirements.
  • Collect data, document progress, and provide timely reports to the Project Manager and relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate project outcomes and impact, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Facilitate community engagement and mobilization, ensuring active participation of community members in all phases of the project.
  • Provide training and capacity-building support to beneficiaries, local partners, and stakeholders on sanitation, hygiene, energy solutions, and housing construction.
  • Work with community leaders, local government officials, and other relevant organizations to ensure the project’s success.
  • Support the Project Coordinator in managing the project budget and ensuring that project expenditures are in line with approved plans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local government agencies, other NGOs, and the community.
  • Prepare regular progress reports, documentation, and case studies.
  • Maintain accurate project files, records, and data related to project activities.

Duration of the contract:  Six months

 Minimum Required:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, construction management, environmental science, management, or public health.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in housing, sanitation, hygiene, and energy projects.
    • Experience working in rural or peri-urban settings, especially in a community-driven project environment, is preferred.
    • Familiarity with donor reporting requirements and financial management of projects.
  • Skills:
    • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills in both English and Amharic (additional local language skills are a plus).
    • Ability to work in a multi-stakeholder environment and to build strong partnerships.
    • Experience with monitoring and evaluation, and knowledge of sanitation, hygiene, and renewable energy technologies is a plus.
