Behailu Gebremickael, a son of Korean War Veteran, lived in the old house for 46 years. He is a guard at private firm; his income is not sufficient to lead his life. He used to live in old and deteriorated house with leaking roof, broken walls, and floor. He had no alternative income to renovate the old house or construct a new one. Thanks to LG Electronics support to realize ‘Life’s Good: Hope Village’ Housing and WASH Project, Bahailu and other families have just moved to houses. Bahailu speaks about the the difference a new home can make:
I had been leading difficult life in the old house. Rainwater flows into the floor and it gets wet always. My safety and health was at risk. I couldn’t sleep at night when it rained. Even I did not want to invite my friends to my house as it was not comfortable.
I cannot tell the difference between the old shelter and the new home. I start new life and feel what a home means to me. I can proudly speak this is my home. I now understand how a new home can refresh new home. I want to thank Habitat and LG Electronics in the name of God for their generous support. |
