Not just a toilet

I have no income except the wage paid for my son. Now, we serve the local people and earn income. Previously, the area was full of waste materials and affected the health of the people moving around. Now it is clean; it serves as a seating place. People use the toilet and the shower. We as a group of women stay together and discuss our challenges and how to create more income for the future. Previously, we had no shower and buy water from private taps. I am grateful for Habitat for creating this opportunity for us; now we have everything, we feel healthy-Genet Sherif.

Genet Sherif is one of the mothers who are struggling to make a living for their families with meagre income in Addis Ababa, Lideta Sub City. She has two sons; one of them is daily laborer and the other do not have job. Genet and her family live in the area for 30 years. The family used old toilet together with many other families before Habitat constructed the new one. She and other 11 women administer the sanitation facility which constitute public toilet and shower rooms. More about sanitation initiative.

Thanks to our long standing partners for supporting our work; we are able to create healthy living environment where women started to generate income.
